METALLIC MATTERS. CHROME OR BRASS? BRONZE OR NICKEL? HOW TO CHOOSE AND HOW TO MIX AND MATCH.
When it comes to your home, are all your metal finishes coolly chrome or do you sit firmly in the brass camp? And how about nuance with nickel and bronze? If you’re not sure, and deciding has sent you into a spin, read on…
CHOOSE CHROME AND NICKEL
Undeniably more contemporary, chrome and nickel are for homes that favor crisp and clean. They’ll also lend and up-to-date edge to a period setting. If you want to soften this look though, opt for nickel — it’s not quite as bright.
CHOOSE BRASS AND BRONZE
Warmer-toned metals might conventionally be traditional. Brushed finishes will soften the brilliance of brass too, or go for black-bronze hardware for a truly timeless industrial feel.
CHOOSE BOTH
Like most decorating rules, matching your finishes was made to be broken. It will lend a gathered-over-time feel for your space. Rather than trying to equally distribute different metals, choose a dominant metal and use the other as an accent. Spreading the dominant finish throughout the room gives mixing metals context.
